Modeling viscosity of concentrated and mixed-solvent electrolyte systems
A comprehensive model has been developed for calculating the viscosity of aqueous or mixed-solvent electrolyte systems ranging from dilute solutions to fused salts. The model incorporates a mixing rule for calculating the viscosity of solvent mixtures and a method for predicting the effect of finite electrolyte concentrations. The mixing rule represents the viscosity of multi-component solvent ...
متن کاملSolvent viscosity dependence for enzymatic reactions
A mechanism for relationship of solvent viscosity with reaction rate constant at enzyme action is suggested. It is based on fluctuations of electric field in enzyme active site produced by thermally equilibrium rocking (cranckshaft motion) of the rigid plane (in which the dipole moment ≈ 3.6 D lies) of a favourably located and oriented peptide group (or may be a few of them). Thus the rocking o...
متن کاملEffect of Magnetic Field on the Liquid-liquid Equilibria of (Water + Acetic Acid + Organic Solvent) Ternary Systems
The effect of magnetic field on the liquid-liquid equilibrium of two ternary systems (water + acetic acid + butyl acetate and water + acetic acid + dimethyl succinate) at 298.15 K under atmospheric pressure was investigated. The results obtained show that the strength of the magnetic field (0.02 T) affects the solubility of acetic acid in the used organic solvents. Distribution coefficients and...
متن کاملNanopapers for organic solvent nanofiltration.
Would it not be nice to have an organic solvent nanofiltration membrane made from renewable resources that can be manufactured as simply as producing paper? Here the production of nanofiltration membranes made from nanocellulose by applying a papermaking process is demonstrated. Manufacture of the nanopapers was enabled by inducing flocculation of nanofibrils upon addition of trivalent ions.
متن کاملDiffusion-Controlled Rotation of Triptycene in a Metal–Organic Framework (MOF) Sheds Light on the Viscosity of MOF-Confined Solvent
Artificial molecular machines are expected to operate under conditions of very low Reynolds numbers with inertial forces orders of magnitude smaller than viscous forces. While these conditions are relatively well understood in bulk fluids, opportunities to assess the role of viscous forces in confined crystalline media are rare. Here we report one such example of diffusion-controlled rotation i...
